My name is Shae Hess, I’ve had diabetes for over 14 years. I have been diabetic since the age of 8 and have been involved in many diabetes organizations throughout those years.

Diabetes is not about being perfect it’s about learning from the mistakes

Transitioning my life from the college scene to a professional job has been one of the most difficult adjustments for me in all my years of dealing with diabetes. Everything about my life has changed in the last few years and it feels that I am adjusting everyday. I equate this though to the challenges of diabetes and how on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis you must re-evaluate where you are and make the adjustments needed to move forward and be as successful as possible.

As a child I went to children’s diabetes camps, and the tools that I learned and continue to learn each summer, help me adjust, grow, and evolve not only as a diabetic but as a better individual as well. Diabetes is not about being perfect it’s about learning from the mistakes that have happened and hoping that knowledge will help you in a situation that you will one day encounter again.
